JAY-Z and Beyoncé, photographed for their “On The Run II” tour book in Kingston, Jamaica on March 22.
Just like the tour’s promotional material, the photograph is inspired by Touki Bouki, a 1973 Senegalese film about two lovers—Mory, a charismatic cowherd; Anta, a university—who fall quickly in love.
Alienated in their home nation, they dream of a new life. They steal money and clothing from a wealthy resident of Dakar, and book passage to Paris. While Anta boards the ship, Mory is overcome by an inability to leave his roots and leaves her to find his bull-horned motorcycle; which has been wrecked in a crash since he parted with it. The ship sails away without him.
The film is considered an African cinema classic and was voted as one of the 100 best films in World Cinema.
